WJ vant jo tittelen "Worlds best off-roader" i 4x4 Magazine så sent som i 2004, så noe positivt må det jo ha vært

[17 Jun 2004] -- In a unique shootout between 10 of the UK’s favourite five-door off-roaders, 4x4 magazine has voted the Jeep Grand Cherokee its ‘World’s Best Off-Roader’.

http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showthread.php?329189-Did-the-WJ-need-to-be-replacedWJ kostet 15 milliarder å utvikle, over bare drøyt 2 år.
"January 1999: Production of the all-new Grand Cherokee begins for international markets at assembly plants in Austria & South America"
Visste ikke at de hadde fabrikk i Sør-Amerika også ?
Det ble vel solgt ca 1,5 million WJ totalt. Går ut fra at antallet inkluderer biler produsert i Østerrike/WG ?
Et sted står det "The last WJ Grand Cherokee: No. 1,557,859 rolls out of JNAP" (Jefferson North Assembly Plant).
Det var jo et halvt år før den siste WG ble produsert i Østerrike. Så kanskje de ikke er inkludert i antallet ?
"The last WJ series Grand Cherokee, a white Laredo model, rolled off the assembly lines at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant Friday May 21, 2004.
Introduced 6 years ago in 1998, the 2nd generation WJ series has been very successful sales-wise.
At retail, it is estimated that more than 1.4 million WJs will have been sold - incredibly close to the number of 1st generation '93-'98 ZJ's sold (1,428,095).
Et annet sted står det "1,662,552 ZJ Grand Cherokees is built".
"The second generation Grand Cherokee was called the WJ and it was a complete redrawing of the car to the point that the new model shared only 127 parts with the original.
First of all, the structure was stiffened by Porsche Engineering for better steering and the engine was upgraded to a PowerTwch V8 with aluminum single overhead cams and plastic intake.
This engine was lighter and thus got better fuel economy. The transmission was also replaced with the new system called Quadra-Drive, with triple locking differential and three viscous clutches."
