Sorry for the english but I have only been in norway three years and I still can not spell in norsk. I was hoping anyone could help me I have been fighting for three years to register my Jeep here in Norway and I am getting no where. All I am told is to put everything back to factory but never any details and they say they do not know what factory is and I must prove it is back to factory. The worst is I have a ten thousand dollar custom paint job I am being told has to go and the Jeep must be the color it was from the factory.
Below are more details my wife translated for me. Thanks for any help you can give.
Hi and welcome !
Sorry about how you have been handled by our "friends" at the norweigan DMV (?)
Since the Jeep is more than 30 years old, it should / could be classified as an "old-time / veteran" type of vehicle.
And yes, there are some stupid rules regarding what is considered original in this context, but i think that how they enforce the rules are waaaay-off how the rules are intended to be enforced.
The good news is that there is in fact an organization that probably can help you with this problem:
www.amcar.noThere is a slight catch: you will probably have to sign up for a membership to get access to the help you will need, the cost is about 6 to 700,- kr annual.
However, they have benefits like a reasonably insurance deal for old american cars, you will get the norwegian magazine "AMCAR" each month and they have some discount deals with several partsdealers etc.
My best idea is to make a call to AMCAR, Stein Moe, # 72 89 60 05 (10-to-15).
He will probably not help you straight away, but after you have started a memebership, if someone is able to help you, it's him.
If i remember correctly, in the 70/80's he was in charge of technical issues at the company that imported Jeep to Norway.
There are many more-than-30 year old Jeeps in Norway, but it could be that they (DMV) has changed how they enforce the rules in recent years. I have never heard of this kind of problems with 30 + year old cars. New cars however, thats another story.
Risløkka is famous for how badly they handles things like this.
From the description of the Jeep it sounds like this shouldn't be a problem at all. Everything sounds original.
You should be aware that if you lift the Jeep, put on some bigger tires etc, then you could see some problems.
Keep the jeep as it is and it should be fine.
The only thing they possibly / perhaps will reject is yellow parklights in the front. The should be white. That's a slight problem, because the parking lights is also used as turn signal. One way is to mount new headlights w/integral park light bulb. Then, use the original park/turn lamp as turn-only lights.
Also, it could be that they don't like red turn signals in the rear. There is an easy fix for this: Glue a piece of amber plexiglass inside the rear lamp where the (clear) reverse-light is. Then, reroute the turn signal cable to the reverse-lamp socket. The reverse cable could be re-routed out to an external, new resverse light. All this if it has the standard truck-type rear lamp.
Also, it could be that you will have to change the seat belts, to a type which is accepted here i Norway/Europe. Again this is easy, but they typical cost about 3-500 kr for each seat.
*However*, before you do anything, make the call to Stein Moe, he can answer if this is neccessary at all.
Also, it helps us a lot if you enter some more information in your profile, i.e. where you are living.
Since you have tried Risløkka, i suspect that you live in the Oslo area ?
If this is correct, I *URGE* you to come and visit us at "Tyrigrava kro", the adress is "gamle mosseveien".
http://www.tyrigrava.no/finn_oss.htmlIt's about 20 km from down-town Oslo.
We have club meetings every monday from about 6 o'clock. Usually, there are about 8-15 avid Jeep fanatics there...
We can give you a lot more information about how to handle this issue during a conversation.
