I think it has something to do with vibrations in the rear axle on the 3.1TD at speeds around 70-80. But why 120?

The 44RE is transmission for gas engine no diesel. This is one of reason. In the Chrysler had scary about this transmission. Therefore 3.1TD has special torque converter. The torque converter is considerate of 44RE.
Do you have vibration on rear axle?

And the diesel engine has different torque process than gas engine.

Sometimes at a 70-80 km/h and special throttle position there are vibrations in the rear when lock-up switch is engaged.
Vibrations usually dissappear when speed is increased. It has been like this the since 2012 when I installed the manual lock-up switch.
